Discover the poetry of the Lichtenstein – Valtice Castle.
Valtice became the family seat of the Liechtenstein family in the second half of 16th century. The Emperor Matthias awarded the Liechtensteins the title of Princes for their services to him. Karl Eusebius of Liechtenstein, the art-loving Prince and himself a student of theoretical reflections on art, commissioned the Baroque construction.
One of the most impressive Baroque residences of Central Europe, Valtice chateau was designed as the seat of the ruling Princes by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach in the early 18th century. Construction was supervised by Italian architects Antonio Beduzzi and Domenico Martinelli.
At the beginning of 18th century the architect Johan Anton Ospel carried out a series of renovations to the forward wings of the château. In the 1960s the interiors of the château under went an extensive restoration to the extent of the current installation.
